Order Haida Sandwich

DeePizz is Toronto’s only source for 100% halal-certified deep dish pizza. They also do calzones, sandwiches and loaded fries, all completely halal as well. The dough is made fresh each day for same-day use and never frozen, containing a secret ingredient that makes it more flavorful. Pies only come in one personal nine-inch size and are all made to order, which takes about seven minutes total, much less time than your average deep-dish joint. There is a wide range of pizzas you can choose from, and all are delicious.

Go for the ultimate beef pepperoni whose dough is layered by red sauce, thinly sliced beef pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and more beef pepperoni. The generous amount of mozzarella makes for the ultimate stretchy, sticky deep dish pizza experience. You can also try the “Chicago in DeePizz,” which is much saucier than options like cheese-laden pepperoni or chicken pesto pies. The next option would be the chipotle steak pizza with a red base, thinly sliced Angus steak, roasted red pepper, mushroom, bell pepper, mozzarella, and chipotle aioli drizzle’s more smoky than spicy.

Located in Toronto’s Leslie Ville neighbourhood, Descendant holds Toronto’s first-ever Detroit-style pizzeria, especially Deep Dish Pizza. With inventive ingredients like Roasted corn, double smoked bacon, sweetie drop Peruvian peppers, chives, cracked black pepper, Torontonians are wondering where these pies have been all their lives. Go for a couple of Deep Dish Pizzas like the Gatt-Daddy (house-made fennel sausage, Mama Lil’s Peppers, red onion, sauce, basil aioli, fresh parsley & basil) and the Jaffna (kottu roti, mango chutney, cilantro cream, green onion, Calabrian chillies, fresh cilantro, coconut sambal).

Ordering a pizza as bizarrely topped as the Jaffna might be an iffy idea at a lesser pizza joint, but Descendant is not a lesser pizza joint.  Aside from making technically superb pizzas, Descendant does an amazing job of taking seemingly bizarre flavour combos and doing something special with them.  The Jaffna is sweet, spicy, savoury, and tangy in all the best ways. The Gatt-Daddy is more traditional, and of course, they hit it out of the park. The crust is delightfully crispy on the bottom and dense enough to hold up to the voluminous toppings while still delightfully fluffy and amazing.

Located on 9 Charles St W, Toronto, 8Mile Pizza serves up Detroit-style Deep Dish Pizzas in the heart of Toronto. The restaurant’s menu offers 16 pizzas to choose from, including a few veggie-friendly options. The Deep Dish Pizzas are made in one size only and range from $16 to $24. As far as toppings go, the selection is relatively tame with standard variations like the meat love (sausage, ham, pepperoni, bacon) and the Oh Canada (bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms). The Oh Canada is a take on the typical Canadian pie with pepperoni, double-smoked bacon, mushrooms and a drizzle of house ranch.

A Pepperoni is a substantial four-cut, enough to feed two easily. The fluffy, puffy crust is covered in lots of cheese, greasy, crispy Ezzo pepperoni, and a nice crunchy “frico” with a concentrated cheese flavour. If you’re still unsure what pie to buy, 8Mile has a special “half-half” option for walk-in customers, which gives them the option of trying two different signature pizzas at once (half on one side and half on the other). And, so as not to let all of that good crust go to waste, there are some tasty dipping sauces on the menu, like the smoked jalapeño. This place also sells desserts for those who still have room.

Double D’s is the place to go in Toronto for Chicago-style deep dish pizza. They offer pies in four sizes: personal, small, medium, and large, though personal pies are dine-in only. The pizzas are gut-busting, cheesy, saucy, and dripping with butter. If you are vegetarian, go for an individual size of the Farmer’s Market, topped with roasted red peppers, mushrooms, red onion, and spinach. They season their own mushrooms here with a secret blend, and they pop nicely in your mouth. It also takes about 40 minutes to make, so be prepared to wait.

If you like something meaty, go for the Chicago classic with pepperoni and Italian sausage. Toppings are layered between dough and sauce for all pizzas, creating that deep dish effect that’s almost more like a pie or quiche. The jalapeno blue is the last of the three prescribed flavours on offer here; otherwise, you’re free to choose your own combination of toppings. It’s undoubtedly the strongest, so if you love mouthfuls of pungent blue cheese and pickled jalapeno, come running. If you’re not hungry, go with the Small Buffalo Chicken Deep Dish Pizza, consisting of Buffalo chicken, red onions, spinach, and blue cheese.

Big Trouble Pizza is a Chinatown takeout counter born in Toronto and does an adult version of dessert pizza and Deep Dish Pizza. Big Trouble Pizza is easy to miss if you’re passing by, as it’s tiny, so you might not necessarily notice it. But they do have a vast graffiti wall art (that’s super colourful and nice), so look for that, and you’re set. This is one of the only places where you can eat the crust without any dip. The dough itself is nice and fresh, light and crisp. The toppings are always fresh and delicious, not too salty, and so flavorful.

This place offers some classic and unconventional variety for their Deep Dish Pizzas. One of the most notable and pleasant surprises is the Butter Jam Jam with its combination of jam and cheese. This must-try consists of organic raspberry jam, buttercream, Mozzarella, Balsamic Reduction, and Lemon Zest. The next most-ordered pizza would be the Kung Funghi, which has mozzarella, Portobello mushroom, sweet onion, chilli jelly, and other toppings. The staff is charming, and the customer service is so quick and helpful.

Located on Bond St, Toronto, Pizza Shab offers a different taste of deep dish pizza and snacks made of daily dough. Pizza Shab is also known in other names since “Pizza Shab” is a Persian name which means “Night Pizza” in English and opens until Late Night; people call them Late Night Pizza, Night Pizza, and/or Night Fast Food. Pizza Shab is a completely Halal takeout pizza joint. You won’t find any gluten-free, wheat, or thin crusts here. The thick, fluffy dough is handmade fresh daily and topped with stretchy, gooey layers of cheese.

Go for The Supreme, which is topped with mozzarella, thick slices of Persian sausage, green and red peppers, olives, and mushrooms. The shredded jambon meat creates a chewy texture below all that cheese, and the other toppings join the party. The beef lover is the most popular pie. It’s topped with a custom blend of cheese and mozzarella for extra gooeyness, as well as green and red pepper and plump corn kernels that add texture. “Rolling” pizza also offers the option of a mix of chicken and beef jambon, one or the other, or veggie.
