Built in 1891, The Blake House is one of the last standing heritage structures in Toronto. The house has had many owners since then, as the street has been more densely developed. The Blake House was turned into the Celebrity Club, an intimate supper club, in the 1960s. Soon after, it was transformed into the famed Red Lion Pub. For several years in the 1990s, the second floor was also home to the prolific British cartoonist Ben Wicks. Currently, it comprises an exquisite bar and hall setting with a unique patio that provides a parallel view near Phoenix Concert Theatre.
The Blake House’s menu consists of an exciting list of Appetizers, Great Items for Sharing, Salads, Sandwiches, Signature Burgers, Entrées and AAA Steaks. Start your experience with their Calamari made of crispy fried calamari dusted with Chili salt, served with citrus aioli. I highly recommend you try the daily specials. For example, Thursday Grilled Chicken Shish Kabob is an excellent option. It contains marinated chicken breast, skewered with sweet onions, peppers, roasted wedge potatoes, Greek salad and tzatziki (gluten-free). Finish your meal with one of the unique desserts. They offer a yummy Crème Brulee, baked vanilla custard topped with a crusted layer of caramel and fresh berries.
The interior design is perfected with a chic bar and luxurious booths. The spacious dining hall provides multiple seating and tables available for large and small groups. Dark wood and delicate stones make the ambiance warm, and the real-wood fireplace is exceptionally cozy on cold nights. The professional staff puts all their efforts into providing the most comfortable experience for you and your party. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity if you are around and visit them.

Opened in 2014, The Tilted Dog has been an extraordinary to-go place for Torontonians in the Cabbagetown neighbourhood within a 10-minutes-walk to Phoenix Concert Theatre. Great food and welcoming service can be found at the Tilted Dog Pub in Cabbagetown. Locally sourced food and drink, including herbs grown in their backyard herb garden and Ontario Craft beer. Sean and Tiffany welcome you to pop in for a mid-day snack, bring the family in for dinner, or meet up with friends for weekend brunch.
Tiff’s buttery pastry is used to encase one of their pies. They’ll become a holiday favourite! Hearty, filling, and a fantastic preparatory course choice. (This recipe serves four people.) These pies are shipped frozen, even though they are baked in-house. For instance, I highly suggest you try the large French Canadian Tourtiere, a Traditional Tourtière, also known as pork pie or meat pie. It’s a classic French-Canadian pie that’s loved all year long, but particularly at the holidays. Tiff’s is made with passion in a classic piecrust with ground beef, onions, and savoury seasonings.
It is good enough for you to return twice in three days. You’ll get a fantastic and generous meal at a great price. The patio is quite beautiful and well-shaded and provides an exquisite view of the street. The live jazz is also a great bonus to the fun you receive there, still not much loud to disturb your comfort in anyways. All I say is underestimating how pleasant your experience will be in The Tilted Dog, so visit them on your next restaurant adventure.

As one of the best Irish pubs in the city and is located near Phoenix Concert Theatre, Stout Irish Pub has made our list today. It’s located at 221 Carlton St, beer tastings, board games, and quiz night, all common at this classic pub for pub grub and local brews. Local draft beer and scratch-made Irish pub fare are served here—the best place to go in Toronto for craft beer, festivals, and parties.
Anyway, Stout Irish is about drinks because they serve a variety of snacks, soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches and exciting entrées. If you happen to go here, as a starter, Buffalo Rings is a must. It consists of battered onion rings topped with shredded cheddar cheese, gorgonzola, hot buffalo sauce, ranch dressing and scallions. For the leading food, go for Chicken Tenders. They’re spicy and comprise buttermilk-soaked chicken tenders served with crisp golden fries, creamy coleslaw and a choice of plum or ranch.
Their backyard patio is intimate and quietly located away from the street and is probably one of the best spots in the city to relax and take the stress off.
