Located near Downtown Toronto, Nobs’ serves up gourmet sous-vide sandwiches bringing all the lunchtime crowds to 505 University Ave. The sous-vide (French for ‘under vacuum) is a cooking process in which food is placed in a plastic pouch or glass jar and cooked in a water bath for longer than usual cooking time. The results are sandwiches with delectable meats like chimichurri steaks, jerk chicken and honey-glazed jerk pork, along with tasty toppings like slaw. The cooking method is super impressive given that this is a one-person operation with a small cart.
You can also get their meat in a salad of garden greens with homemade raspberry dressing and other sauces. For $9-15, on your choice of wrap, bun or salad, you get a perfectly cooked sous-vide steak, chicken or mushroom lunch with your choice of sauces. The owner is super friendly and works really hard to provide excellent food at reasonable prices. The sandwiches are all the same size, and the only difference between small, medium and large is the amount of protein included. Wait times are definitely longer here than other food cart visits, so plan your lunch hour accordingly.

Located at 717 Bay St unit d and near Downtown Toronto, Vua Banh Mi is an Asian restaurant serving tasty Vietnamese sandwiches in a clean environment with a minimalistic interior and super friendly staff. Banh Mi is a Vietnamese word meaning “wheat bread” – and also the name for the delicious Vietnamese sandwiches that are eaten if you are in a hurry. It may be a simple sandwich, but Banh Mi is all about the flavours. The staple of this food is the Vietnamese baguette. These baguettes are smaller than the French version and are made with a mixture of wheat and rice flour, resulting in a thinner and crustier baguette.
Banh mi is filled with raw vegetables and meatballs (Banh mixíu mại) or pâté (Banh mi pâté). They combine French-influenced ingredients such as pâté, as well as Vietnamese-inspired ingredients like carrots, pickled white radishes, cilantro, soy sauce and meat. Banh mi can include other fillings too, like grilled pork meat, grilled chicken, Silkie chicken, sardines with tomato sauce or pork meatballs in tomato sauce. Mayo can also be added. Their menu offers other sandwiches like the Shish Tawook Sandwich, consisting of Shish tawook (chicken), cheese, red grill pepper, spicy mayo, and lettuce.

Located on 122 Sherbourne St and near Downtown Toronto, FAMO is a sandwich shop concept offering unique sandwich combinations from fresh ingredients that aren’t typically paired. Chef Babak Fahmi was used to creating dishes at home with beef tongue, beef cheek, and other less common types of meat and fish. He saw an opportunity to bring these unique flavours to the Toronto market to offer diners a unique quick-service sandwich experience.
From Haddock to beef cheek, they will use it all to bring you the most flavorful creations between two buns. They use fresh and local ingredients to keep their menu seasonal and exciting; there are always new sandwich creations in the works. Although all sandwiches are good, one of the favourites is the Famous Lamb, which pays homage to the owners’ Persian heritage. In between the crusty toasted baguette are thick slices of slow-roasted lamb leg rubbed in earthy spices such as cloves. Topped with a fragrant turmeric onion slaw, this is a tasty sandwich.

Located at 330 Bay St and near Downtown Toronto, 330 Takeout is an Italian restaurant serving massive, meaty sandwiches. Although it’s a takeout-only spot (as its name suggests), there are a few stools if you’d like to sit and eat before heading back to your home or office. But really, this spot is built for to-go lunches. This becomes obvious with the heavily branded sandwich boxes that each features a different cute little icon based on which protein you order; either chicken, pork or steak.
At this place, you can’t miss tasty porchetta sandwiches. The sandwiches come on focaccia from Fred’s Bread, and the porchetta, rotisserie chicken and steak are all prepared in-house. You may want to go for the strip loin steak sandwich, which has some bite, thanks to a few banana peppers and a generous dollop of creamy horseradish sauce. A slice of mild provolone cheese balances it all out. And along with the sandwiches, you can grab a half or whole chicken ($15/$28) meal that comes with one or two sides, respectively. Sides include potatoes and Caesar salad.
