Located near Shangri-La Hotel, Rosalinda is a vibrant, vegan Mexican restaurant run by excellent chefs Grant van Gameren and Max Rimaldi. The feel-good vegan Mexican hot-spot has gained popularity for its colourful and beautifully crafted Tostadas, Tacos, desserts and cocktails, as well as its nature-inspired interior. Surrounded by the concrete jungle, Rosalinda provides an urban escape by adding a fresh yet vintage feel to Toronto’s restaurant scene. Through a seamless blend of food, art and design, Rosalinda is an inviting space for everyone. It’s such a lovely spot; you’ll want to spend time there even if you’re not vegan.
For diners stepping inside, a sort of indoor patio awaits. The central area is framed by a greenhouse structure made of antique glass and steel, providing patrons with the pleasure of indoor dining with an open-air ambience. Try mixed squash, which is a favourite option typically sourced from Ontario and changes up seasonally. It is an economical and hearty option with lots of flavours plated beautifully on a Pipián Verde sauce, that’s also Pepita-based, with delicious puffed wild grain chips in imitation of Chicharrón.

The Gabardine is a cozy spot with a nostalgic feeling located near Shangri-La Hotel. It features an American-style menu loaded with tasty dishes from traditional mac and cheese to the untraditional Burnt Marshmallow Ice Cream Sandwich. An airy room of white walls, ceilings, and counters is the backdrop for pub classics like chicken liver Pâté or salt cod Fritters but updated with gourmet touches like Aioli and Peri-peri for the latter. Located on the ground floor of a three-story building near Shangri-La Hotel, Noodle Bar is a sister-restaurant to the restaurant of the same name in New York City. The restaurant serves a continually changing roster of noodles, steamed loaves of bread, daily dishes, and soft serve. Its contemporary yet casual setting features communal-style seating. Momofuku noodle bar’s chef Hans Vogels creates dishes using locally-sourced ingredients. Momofuku noodle bar features an open kitchen where guests can view the skillful chefs working. It hosts private events for business luncheons, receptions and more. This restaurant welcomes reservations and offers a delivery service.
Diners can start their meal with pickled vegetables, shiitake buns or Napa kimchi. A main course of ramen with pork belly, fish cake and egg or ginger scallion noodles with cucumber will tantalize the taste buds. It also has delicious rice dishes, as well as Korean- and southern-style fried chicken meals that serve up to eight people. Fried Chicken is one of the Noodle Bar’s large meals. It feeds four to eight people. The meal includes two whole fried chickens, one southern style and one Korean style. Cafe Landwer is a great dining spot serving special coffees, breakfast, lunch, dinner & dessert near Shangri-La Hotel. Their menu is an eclectic mixture of Arabic, German, and American dishes that don’t seem to go together but are somehow listed on the same page. Moreover, the food options are so extensive that it hardly seems like a café. The environment is designed in a modern vintage style with a tiled branding wall on one side advertising the place’s hundred-year heritage and old photos elsewhere.
At this café, you should try The Farmer’s Breakfast, which is layered on top of a “Focaccia” providing the base for many dishes. It’s more of a flatbread than an Italian loaf. It’s thin and crusty in the middle and chewy around the edges, topped with sunny eggs and a herby chopped tomato and cucumber salad served with Tahini and Labneh. Halloumi Shakshouka is another tasty dish that comes with the eggs baked in a tomato sauce studded with big chunks of squeaky cheese and spinach. It’s served with a breakfast side salad and the same Tahini and Labneh. They also have a legendary crumbed cheesecake and baked cheesecake, the rich latter with a berry sauce.

Launched in 2016, PLANTA Queen is a restaurant offering innovative plant-based cuisine near Shangri-La Hotel. The restaurant’s vision is to celebrate creative cuisine in a beautiful environment without any animal products. PLANTA’s idea goes beyond taking animals off the plate, as their commitment is to use high-quality products from ethical suppliers providing the foundation for their chefs.
Planta offers a menu of purely vegan eats, meaning meat- and dairy-free dishes—but with an Asian flair. The menu is comprised of “Izakaya-style” dining, meaning smaller, refined shareable, as their usual style. You can pair your food with some cocktails, or if you’re feeling health-conscious, Kombucha via Tonica or juice from Village Juicery. Ahi watermelon plays a big part in this menu. Located on the upper level of First Canadian Place near Shangri-La Hotel, Cactus Club Cafe is a restaurant specializing in global cuisine using local, fresh ingredients. The restaurant offers a contemporary space that is vibrant and alive. Diners get gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options here. The Quinoa salad is a hit, as is the roasted butternut squash soup. You can also try a peppercorn New York striploin with mashed potatoes and asparagus or the Baja fish tacos. Finish up with white chocolate cheesecake or a key lime pie for dessert.
The restaurant itself is broken into several areas across three floors with an elevator providing access to each: Kate’s Bar (main floor), the Rob Feenie Dining Room and Lounge (second floor) and the Deck (rooftop patio). There is also a street-level patio on Adelaide St. The decor is as polished as one might expect from a high budget, corporate-owned restaurant. But one thing you’ll be surprised and delighted to discover is the severe collection of artwork that adorns the walls. The service is attentive, warm and unpretentious. The staff are passionate about delivering food on time to keep their guests coming back again and again.

Pai Northern Thai Kitchen is a go-to spot for Thai Canadians near Shangri-La Hotel and those craving delicious South Asian Cuisine. A cafe and bar (named Bebop for a local music house) also offer its own snack bar menu, and there’s a takeout station fashioned to look like a street hawker’s cart. The spacious 80-seat hall offers a mix of seating, including a cushioned area where diners sit on the floor. A private dining room seats 22 at long communal tables, and Bebop will accommodate 35 while it’s a standing room only.
The menu is divided into two categories, ‘snacks and starters’ and ‘mains’ – all eaten family-style, inviting diners to help themselves and share and sample around the table. You can try one of the best Thai foods named Green papaya salad, which comes with a choice of dried shrimp or salted crab and is presented on a vintage tray surrounded by rice noodles, pork rinds and shrimp chips. The salad itself is like a slaw, a medley of shredded fruit, tomatoes and green beans dressed with a garlicky marinade made with chillies, tamarind juice, fish sauce, coconut sugar and lime.

Ginger Restaurant is a quick, convenient place to grab delightful Vietnamese or Thai meals at reasonable prices near Shangri-La Hotel. They serve MSG-free Vietnamese dishes in a cafeteria-style setting, and all food here can be modified according to your taste. It may not be the most beautiful restaurant in the neighbourhood, but the concept is more like a fast-food restaurant where you order and pay first. However, don’t let that fool you! Ginger has the price and atmosphere of a fast-food restaurant with a sit-down Asian restaurant’s food quality.
Try the coconut shrimp, a favourite crunchy dish coming with a succulent, juicy shrimp, a subtle coconut sauce and fragrant rice. The Pho and other soups are on par with other Vietnamese and Pho places. Another favourite dish is the beef Vermicelli Noodles, and you can have it with a Spring Roll or a Tofu Banh Mi Sandwich. This is the best place to drop by if you’re nearby and craving some good magnificent food.

Located on Richmond St, just a few doors west from the intersection at Yonge St near Shangri-La Hotel, Richmond Station is one of Toronto’s most consistently good restaurants where you can always be sure that you’ll get a great meal. The menu here is simple and occasionally changes to reflect the seasonal ingredients they have. The atmosphere is quite casual, and the service is always fantastic. Every member of the staff is welcoming and attentive without overdoing it.
The Beef Tartar is a highly recommended dish here. The beef is nicely done with a few pickled onions and parmesan cheese shavings on top of a tiny sliced potato Croquette. If you love mushrooms, you need to try chicken fried oyster mushrooms that are lightly battered and fried, topped with a Japanese sesame chilli blend (Togarashi) and some sweet and sour drizzles and Kewpie mayonnaise. Another tasty dish is the Roasted Beet Salad, which arrives dressed in a maple vinaigrette. It is perfectly balanced with crunchy, toasted hazelnuts and a deliciously creamy, Labneh-like goat cheese.
