Like other Korean fast foods in Koreatown, Imonay is fast, cheap and kitschy. But what makes it different from other places is that it offers a group of options rarely found in Toronto, such as Red Bean Kal Gook Soo (red bean sauce and hand-cut rice noodles), Galchi Chorim (soy-marinated cutlass fish), Odang Dinner (a fishcake specialty) and one of the most favourites, Kong Biji Jigae. Kong Biji Jigae (alternately called Kong Biji, Biji Jigae, and Biji) is a ground-soybean stew rich in flavour, high in protein.
Imonay is also a perfect place to feast on such tasty dishes as the Spicy Tofu in a Spicy Broth, the Seafood Yaki Udon, or the Chicken-Fried Rice! Entering Imonay is like taking a trip back to 1981. Wallpaper wainscoting, metal-tube chairs and superfluous mirrors add a specific “grandma’s living room” flavour to the otherwise grungy diner decor. Unlike many Korean restaurants that run with non-Korean staff, in this restaurant, you feel as if you are in Korea. Just like they do in Korea, a friendly server will immediately serve your meal.
