Shater Abbas Express has tasty Persian stews like Ghormeh Sabzi, Gheimeh, Fesenjoon and a variety of kebab options, including Koobideh, Barg, and Torsh Kebab. The restaurant is small, clean and the seating is limited inside, with only enough seating for about ten people. They do have an outside patio with a bit more seating. If you are in a rush, you may want to call for take-out in advance, as you could be waiting a while, depending on how busy they are. This place isn’t fancy but, the food makes up for it. The staff speak English very well, and they are so friendly.

Located on York Mills Road in Bayview Village, Darband Restaurant is in a dingy strip mall in Don Mills and serves what just might be the best rice in Toronto. Darband Restaurant is also a 24-hour bar and restaurant that offers Persian food. In fact, the 10-year-old restaurant is often busiest at 4 a.m., as it serves as a gathering place after concerts and other events in the Persian community. They provide some of the best authentic Persian foods, from the tastiest traditional appetizers to the most mouth-watering main courses.
Don’t forget to try the Aash Reshteh, a thick Persian noodle soup with fresh vegetables and pinto beans, flavoured with kashk (yogurt whey), sautéed garlic, and mint. For the main course, you may order Baghali Polo Mahiche, an oven-baked seventeen and a half ounces of lamb shank cooked in Darband’s special sauce, served with dill and broad bean rice. The portion here is enormous. So it might be a good idea to share a dish if you are not too hungry.

Zafron Restaurant is a well-known Persian restaurant in Bayview Village that has a passion for new Middle Eastern food tastes. Zaffron provides authentic Persian food inside a California-style decorated restaurant with stucco walls, autumn colours and tile floors. Fresh from the wood oven, Iranian flatbread is sprinkled with sesame seeds; it proves the perfect medium for smoky eggplant purée with lashings of goat yogurt cheese and deep-fried mint. Zaffron kebabs are also tender, juicy and smoky, served with perfectly cooked Basmati rice.
You can order the Bademjan Kebab, consisting of two stuffed eggplants with a mixture of walnuts, fresh herbs, and pomegranate sauce for the appetizer. One order comes with two pieces. For the main course, you can opt for the Stuffed Grape Leaves, House-made rice, and herb stuffed grape leaves, served with yogurt sauce. One order comes with six pieces. Located on Yonge St in Bayview Village, Taftan Kebab is a Persian take-out and catering restaurant which is mainly famous for its Persian’ “low calorie” healthy foods. Persian cooking is inherently very greasy (and also delicious), so a healthy cuisine is a wonderful thing to have for those being more health-conscious. You will be offered such food as nicely cooked beef or lamb kebabs and salads. The deals for the amount of food at this restaurant are fantastic. For example, you can order three skewers of meat (lamb, chicken and beef), rice and salad for $19.99.
It’s a small restaurant with seating along the wall. The interior design of this place is somehow unreal. It’s like you are transported back to an Old Iranian tea house. They have wooden, raised booths covered with tapestry and carpets. The walls have paintings and cool ornaments. There are various bottles of homemade sauces lying around, so if you want to try them out, you may have to walk around to grab them. The portions are enormous, and the prices are on point. It takes a while to have your food ready most of the time, so it is better to pre-order and pick it up, but if you have time to spare worth waiting there.

The area has a few bar seats, but people usually go there for take-out, as its name suggests. Having the ever-so-popular Koobideh will not leave you disappointed. The deep beefy flavour combined with pungent Persian spices will satiate your nose and mouth. The entire roasted tomato, along with sumac, adds to the perfectly cooked rice and dryness of the kebab when it’s broken up.
This is definitely the best take-out place whenever you’re on your home way and crave some Persian food, specially Kooideh Kebab. Their daily specials are also a great deal, with Tuesday’s Adas polo (a delicious and hearty Iranian dish made of aromatic basmati rice, lentils, caramelized onion, raisins, and spices. Served with chicken or lamb, or enjoyed as a vegetarian dish) and Wednesday’s Tahchin (an Iranian rice cake primarily consisting of rice, yogurt, saffron, and eggs) being two big favourites. The price is fair, the portions are significant, and the flavours are always fantastic.
